Typhoon Ruby – The Filipino Spirit is Waterproof

Typhoon Ruby Philippines

Usually ESCapology.eu is my platform to write about adventures in far away or not so far away places, encounters and experiences, general thoughts about traveling and to showcase my photography. It is supposed to be a happy place to give you, my readers, good vibes and inspiration.
But once again current events remind us that life is not all about that and can take strange twists. Just after a year since devastating super typhoon Haiyan / Yolanda has hit the Philippines, claiming thousands of victims and leaving even more homeless and vulnerable, another typhoon has made landfall in the country of the 7.107 islands. It is sad to see that the people who have just began to rebuild their homes and lives have now to face another setback.

However, recent reports indicate that the typhoon has lost some of its destructive power along the way and, even more importantly, people and authorities in the country were much better prepared this time. Early evacuations have prevented the worst and so far no casualties have been reported. In this time of turmoil and calamity, that is a positive takeaway and something the government should further build on.

Another positive phenomenon which typhoon Ruby, also known as Hagupit, once again brings out is the amazing solidarity of the Filipino people. Private homes and even resorts have been opened to evacuees and volunteers once again help packing and distributing relief goods for the affected regions. It is good to see that in times like this, the Filipino people stand by each other and give support the best they can.

As typhoon Ruby will make its third landfall today, we will still have to see how much damage it will leave behind afterall. In any case, I am sure the international community will be there to support the relief efforts. And if needed, I also want to urge you, the readers and followers here at ESCapology, to help in any way you can. Even if it is just donating a few Dollar or Euros – every bit can make a difference. But I do hope that the effects won’t be as bad as in the aftermath of typhoon Yolanda. Let’s all hope for the best.

With Christmas approaching, we should all be aware that people go through difficult times struggling for the most basic things – a roof above their heads, food on the table and the safety of beloved family members. It’s easy to forget this during all the Christmas preparations and festivities approaching. Let’s try to not forget about this and give our support to the brave and resilient people of the Philippines and also people in other parts of the world, facing similar challenges. In times like these we once again should be thankful for what we have and reach out to our fellow world citizens who are less fortunate.

        Hello Phil,

It felt so good to know that there are people from far away places or of long distances that are willing to help and give a hand to those who are in need. You have proven to us that distance doesnt matter anymore. What matters most is the willingness to help and the heart to give a hand to those who needed it (help) most. Mabuhay ka!

Hi Jonel, sure thing. You can be assured that people here in Europe are on your side…. But good thing that things turned out not to be as bad as originally expected. So maybe not even that much will be needed. It’s will be soon time to gather and start rebuilding. This time stronger than before. Good luck and all the best! Philipp
