Ok, this is the premiere – the first Picture of the Week of this trip. So here we go…
This was taken at Wat Chaiwathanaram, part of the historical park in Ayutthaya. The park contains several ancient temple and monastery ruins which were declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1991. Between 1350 and 1767 Ayutthaya was the capital of the Kingdom of Siam, now Thailand. It was  prosperous and influential but yet sacked by the Burmese after 400 years. Looted and destroyed, the legacy of this era was left to the jungle. The architecture of the ancient monastery Wat Chaiwathanaram resembles Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
A few more anecdotes on my stay in Ayutthaya will follow soon. Hope you like the picture.
This picture is absolutely amazing 🙂 ! Congrats!!
Hey Ana,
thanks a lot. It’s been a good session with great people. We got eaten alive by moskitos at one point but it was good fun. Seeing the result of this evening was even better. Glad you like the picture! Greetings from Laos, Phil
